This thread is for introductions. If you’re new here, this is the easiest place to start.
Tell us a little about your dog:
- Name and breed
- Age
- Their condition or what brought you here (IVDD, DM, hip dysplasia, paralysis, recovery, end-of-life — whatever applies)
- Where you are in the journey (newly diagnosed, weeks in, years in, grieving)
- One thing about them that has nothing to do with their condition. What they love. What makes them ridiculous. What you’d want a stranger to know.
I’ll start.
I’m Andrea. My dog is Heidi — an almost 10-year-old miniature dachshund. She had IVDD a few years back and we went through the whole thing: emergency vet, conservative management, weeks of crate rest, the slow climb back. She’s stable now, mostly herself, with the same long-low body and the same complete refusal to acknowledge bigger dogs as a threat.
The thing about her that has nothing to do with IVDD: she’s very serious about her squeaky carrot. It is the only toy she owns that matters. Every other toy is acceptable; the carrot is sacred.
